Black History Month is an annual observance that takes place every February in the United States, Canada, and other countries around the world. It is a time to celebrate and honor the achievements and contributions of Black people throughout history, and to recognize the struggles and challenges they have faced.

The origins of Black History Month can be traced back to the early 20th century, when historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent Black figures began advocating for the recognition of Black history. In 1926, Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History established the second week of February as "Negro History Week," which was later expanded to a month-long observance in 1976.
